Helping Haw Creek do the Hustle - Chris P
Thank you to Fred Anderson Subaru for their generous sponsorship of the Haw Creek Hustle. The 5k race, held on May 17, was a huge success with over 150 enthusiastic participants. Families, friends, and neighbors came together for a fun-filled morning that included live music and treats on a race course looping our scenic valley. Subieville’s contribution to the Haw Creek Community Association helped make this event a success! We are an all-volunteer organization dedicated to affecting positive change. Since our founding in 1984, we have been committed to protecting and promoting the interests of the Haw Creek valley. Our work enriches lives, protects natural beauty, and promotes safety for all our residents. Again, thank you for your support which enables us to achieve these community objectives.
The Precious Gifts of Stability & Community - Abby N
Homeward Bound’s mission is to prevent and end homelessness in our community through permanent housing and support. Without a doubt, this work wouldn’t be possible without the engagement from partners like Fred Anderson Subaru. When food scarcity and homelessness increased in the aftermath of Tropical Storm Helene, Kim Richardson and the Subaru team stepped up to volunteer with the Equal Plates Project and delivered meals to the 85+ residents at our Permanent Supportive Housing apartment complex, Compass Point Village. This support had a huge impact on our relief efforts as our staff performed wellness checks and delivered supplies to housed and unhoused clients across Buncombe County. After such an intense time for our community, Kim, on behalf of Subaru, volunteered to help us honor our staff’s passion and teamwork at our staff appreciation event. A few months later, Fred Anderson Subaru sponsored our 13th Annual Welcome Home luncheon and helped us raise over $100,000 to help prevent and end homelessness for community members like James. Supportive housing at Compass Point Village has given James stability and community after he was homeless for three years. “I want to maintain my home, my family, and my friends who live here. I want this place to be okay. For us to be all alright. You built me a castle and it runs itself. We’re still going to be as taken care of tomorrow as we are today.” – James Thanks to Fred Anderson Subaru’s commitment to lasting change, Homeward Bound can extend the same opportunity to more neighbors in need, and the reassurance that their community will stand beside them. Stepping Up for Asheville: Subaru’s Commitment to Nourishing the Community After Hurricane Helene - Rachel L
When Hurricane Helene hit Asheville in September 2024, it left more than just physical destruction—it intensified the existing challenges faced by the residents of Homeward Bound’s Compass Point Village (CPV), a supportive housing community for individuals who have experienced chronic homelessness. That’s when Kim Richardson, Business Process Analyst & Community Outreach Specialist from Prestige Subaru stepped up. Kim saw the need and started volunteering with Equal Plates Project to deliver hot meals to CPV residents. Equal Plates Project, a local nonprofit, purchases fresh, locally sourced ingredients from small farms at fair prices, turns them into nourishing meals, and partners with organizations like Homeward Bound to share thousands of meals each week with neighbors facing complex barriers to food access. Since Kim began her deliveries in October 2024, nearly 4,000 locally- sourced, nourishing meals have been provided to CPV residents, ensuring those who had recently transitioned out of homelessness weren’t left hungry. But the impact didn’t stop there. Each meal served also meant $4,000 in direct support for small, local farms, many of which had lost their usual sales outlets due to the storm’s disruption when restaurants and markets were shut down for months. “Kim is fabulous! She’s offered dependable support since the early days of the Hurricane response - twice a week for the past six months, she has consistently shown up with a smile. Not only has she provided valuable delivery support, she has also been a great advocate for Equal Plates Project and the work we do in our community,” said Katy Estrada, Operations Manager at Equal Plates Project. This is about more than just food—it’s about the strength of community. It’s about neighbors helping neighbors, businesses stepping up when it matters most, and a collective commitment to ensuring everyone not only has a seat at the table but also access to nourishing food with dignity. Thank you, Kim, and Prestige Subaru, for showing up when Asheville needed it most! Photos courtesy of Homeward Bound and Donnie Bishop.
Prestige Subaru puts Emma Elementary Teachers in the Drivers Seat - Kim R
Teachers and students at Emma Elementary are staying on the road to success thanks to one generous business. Through the Subaru “Share the Love” Promise, Prestige Subaru made a promise to 10 teachers to provide them the tools they need to make this year the best one yet. “It’s a blessing to be a recipient of this award,” said fourth grade teacher Rebecca Snow. “This award will help us to give students more hands-on learning experiences.” Each of the 10 sponsored teachers received new classroom supplies from notebooks and pencils to art materials. A $500 gift card was awarded to each teacher as well, for additional items they may need in their classrooms. “As Subaru says, ‘We are not a typical car company’,” said General Manager Scott Rossi. “It’s kinda nice as a retailer of Subaru automobiles to be able to get out and interact with the community. My parents are both retired school teachers so this is something near and dear to my heart.” Principal Carla Shipman says the extra support for her school helps them go the extra mile for their students. “We are so excited about this opportunity to collaborate with Prestige Subaru to help our students and staff be prepared for a great school year,” said Ms. Shipman. Thanks to community partnerships like these, the teachers at Emma Elementary are in the driver’s seat when it comes to student success.
Giving a Small Business A Big Boost - Kim R
This past January, we are bid farewell to our new and dear friends James, Lucy and Elena (and Tutti!) of Kafe Neo Espresso Bar. Their big smiles, even bigger hearts, and delicious drinks will be missed by all. Our connection started in September when James and Lucy found their dream Outback here at Fred Anderson’s Prestige working with Zachary Polos in sales. Just two weeks after their purchase, Hurricane Helene left them without work when the retail space they operated from was destroyed. Their quick thinking sales associate, Zachary, connected the dots ~ James and Lucy make delicious coffee and Prestige did not have potable water to operate our lounge’s coffee machines. The Kafe Neo crew moved in and quickly became part of the Prestige family, blending right in with their beaming attitudes, expert latte art, and charming coffee cart. “I don't think we can ever properly thank you for the way in which you rescued our small business. You scooped us up and shared the love and support of your wonderful Subieville community and we will be forever grateful for the much needed purpose and incredible friendships that has brought our way.” ~ Lucy (and James and Tutti) While we are sad to see them go, we know we’ve made friends for a lifetime and we look forward to seeing them around town in that fierce Outback! We love you @ kafeneoespressobar !!
SUBARU MAKES VETERAN HEALING PAW-SIBLE DURING NATIONAL DISASTER - Jennifer W
In 2024 when disaster struck Asheville, North Carolina, the team at Prestige Subaru came to the rescue of a nonprofit organization that brings together Service Dogs and Veterans for some paw’sitive healing! Nonprofit Warrior Canine Connection (WCC) opened its Asheville location in 2018 to support the recovery and rehabilitation of wounded Veterans in that community. As an accredited Service Dog organization, WCC engages Veterans in Animal Assisted Therapy as part of their treatment for PTSD and places highly skilled Service Dogs with them. When Hurricane Helene struck, WCC’s training space was flooded and left unsafe and unusable. While WCC staff worked quickly to try and find space to continue critical programming with Veterans, the reality was that few structures in Asheville were left untouched by Helene. As they had so many times before, the amazing team at Prestige Subaru reached out to WCC to show just how much #SubaruLovesVeterans! During the time that the nonprofit’s training space was being repaired, the Subaru team opened its doors to Veterans, WCC Service Dogs in Training and the organization’s staff to ensure WCC’s life-saving work could continue. Subaru Retailers Team Up to Support Hurricane Relief Efforts - Jess M
At Prestige Subaru, we’re always ready to step up and support our communities, especially in times of crisis. This commitment is at the heart of the Subaru Love Promise®. When Hurricanes Helene and Milton devastated the Eastern region, Subaru retailers like us immediately sprang into action. Alongside other Subaru retailers, Subaru of America, and local organizations, we assessed the most urgent needs in the affected areas. It quickly became clear that local food banks were struggling to keep up with the surge in demand as they worked to support people hit hardest by the storms. In response, we teamed up with 67 Subaru retailers across the region to launch a $400,000 match campaign to aid the hurricane relief efforts of Feeding America®. Prestige Subaru proudly contributed $10000 to this initiative. While the immediate impact of the storms fades from the headlines, many of our neighbors continue to face long-term challenges like food insecurity, water shortages, power outages, and limited access to essential services. Thanks to the collective generosity of Subaru retailers and the communities we serve, an additional $18,427 was raised. This brings the total impact to $418,427, or over 4,100,000 meals for those in need. "As one of the nation's largest disaster relief organizations, the Feeding America network of food banks and partner agencies is deeply rooted in communities across the country. Together, our partnership with trusted Subaru dealers has helped expedite emergency food assistance and supplies to people who need it most. We are immensely grateful," said Feeding America Chief Development Officer Casey Marsh.
